Okorocha Declares Free Tertiary Education in Imo State
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has promised to establish two new towns in Okigwe and Orlu to decongest Owerri, the state capital.Speaking in a radio broadcast on Tuesday, the governor said the development is also expected to create more jobs for youths in the state. He also revealed that his administration would establish or revive 15 industries that would be spread across the three senatorial zones of the state before the end of his tenure in 2015.
One of the industries that has been revived is the Nsu Ceramic Industry Mbano in Okigwe Senatorial Zone. The factory was initiated by Sam Mbakwe, the first civilian Governor of the State, but was not completed.
Okorocha also announced the extension of his free education programme to Imo students in tertiary institutions in the state. He declared that no student or pupil of Imo State origin studying in any institution owned by the state would pay fees.
